Drug raid in DA
By Mattawa Area News staff
MATTAWA, Washington (STPNS) -- The local residents of Grant County got a Valentine’s Day present, thanks to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office InterAgency Narcotics Enforcement Team (INET), when a suspected drug dealer was arrested.
According to Chief Deputy John Turley, Salvador Sotero Veloz-Garcia, 33 of Desert Aire, was arrested and booked into the Grant County Jail, for possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver in a school zone; alien in possession of a firearm (.357 magnum); maintaining a drug house; and possession of marijuana under 40 grams. He was arrested on February 14 at approximately 7:45 p.m. at his home at 302 Vance Lane in Desert Aire.
An agent with the Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE), who is fluent in Spanish, accompanied the INET team.
INET, along with ICE, served a search warrant of Veloz’ vehicle and residence. A combined total of 98.2 grams (3.5 ounces) with an approximate value of $1,500 was found throughout the residence in small plastic baggies. An older Ford mini-van, driven by Veloz, contained approximately one gram of methamphetamine and was seized as it was used in the commission of a felony. Also seized in the warrant search was $915 in cash.
Veloz lives at the Desert Aire address with a female companion. They have four children in common, the oldest five years of age. ICE has determined that Veloz is illegally in the United States. He has not been released from jail because of the felony charges he is facing.
