WA: Sanctuary City feeling impact of Tuberculosis

King County says tuberculosis cases have doubled this year
11:59 AM PDT on Saturday, May 19, 2007
    Associated Press
SEATTLE - Tuberculosis cases have doubled in King County this year when compared to the same period last year, health officials said.
Most cases have affected foreign-born residents, and health officials do not think there is a threat of spread to other parts of the community.
Health workers are overwhelmed with the TB case load, however, and need more help, said Dr. Masa Narita, director of TB control for Public Health -- Seattle & King County.
From January through March, 38 TB cases were reported, compared with 18 in the same period last year. In 2006, the annual total was up 16 percent from 2005, to 145 cases. Eighty percent of TB patients in King County were foreign-born.
"It is concerning, and we have to continue the thorough job we're doing with case management and timely ... investigations," Narita said.
Immigration from countries where TB is widespread -- Eastern Africa, Central America and Southeast Asia -- has increased at the same time TB cases in King County have risen.
Worldwide, about a third of the population is infected with TB, according to the federal Centers for Disease Control. Nearly 2 million die of TB in the world each year.
It costs a minimum of $7,000 to treat each TB patients, but for those rare individuals who are resistant to the most common drugs, treatment can cost up to $250,000 a patient. About two patients a year in King County are drug resistant.

In addition to overcrowding caused by sanctuary city policies, many heretofore eradicated diseases are making a comeback in the US. Any church offering sanctuary also contributes to this potential epidemic and should be cited as a menace to public health. These folks are charitable and promise to provide all the medical care necessary but recall, it's their charity but your money. And another thing, I consider it despicable that liberal media put spin on a subject as serious and threatening as this. The term "foreign-born" is code for Mexican 'cuz everyone keeping up knows 80% are from there. This news organization cannot bring itself to use the term Mexican, instead pointing the finger at Central America. They know identities and data are totally unknown and their little spin can never be proven. But it's a despicable lie nevertheless. And the socialized education system crams together with our children many diseased children whose medical conditions are unknown 'cuz certifications have been promised but never received.

The illegal aliens are walking around in the grocery store with you coughing the TB virus all over your children. TB is an airborne virus.

When your children come down with it, blame the government that allowed these sick criminals to live undeterred in your communities.

Do you wonder how many major cities are not reporting these kind of problems?

This is another contributing reason the new compromised amnesty bill is seeking to increase visas for those in the medical profession. We have enough doctors and nurses for American citizens, but in order to cover the problems brought on by third world illegals (i.e. violence, births, disease, etc.), the leaders in the medical field are claiming we need more. This may very well be true, but the need wouldn't exist if our borders had been secured and laws enforced. Illegal immigrants are upsetting the balance of America in a lot more ways than one! It's simple supply and demand - 20 to 30 million new souls require more supporting infrastructure (banks, houses, schools, stores, social services, prisons, etc., etc.). If things continue as they have, or should the compromised amnesty bill get signed into law, the next big change you'll see will be the taxes you pay! We've (taxpayer) always had to provide for those that couldn't provide for themselves, however, why should we have to provide for those that our government have forced upon us in the name of greed?

Boy do I ever agree with you MW. This is one of the issues that really sticks in my craw.
