HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) — About 200 people opposing Alabama's new law targeting illegal immigrants have marched through Huntsville.

Police escorted the marchers Saturday from the city's post office, around the Madison County Courthouse and to Big Spring International Park.

The Huntsville Times reports that representatives from the North Alabama Hispanic Coalition and Todo Razas Unidos joined the march. At the park, Joe Ferrazas of Todo Razas Unidos read a letter to Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley. He said the law has created "more hate, racism, bullying in schools and a great divide in America."

Federal courts have put on hold a portion of Alabama's law requiring that schools report the number, but not the names, of students whose immigration status is in question.
