Warner claims U.S. base closures rigged
WASHINGTON, Aug. 24 (UPI) --

A Republican U.S. senator claimed Wednesday the national military base realignment announced this year was rigged against Washington, D.C.-area bases.

The comments came as the Base Closure and Realignment Commission began three days of voting on the closures.

Sen. John Warner of Virginia, chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, claimed Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and a senior aide manipulated the national plan announced May 13 to compel the movement of more than 20,000 defense jobs away from the capital area.

"In simple terms, the military value model was rigged," Warner said, citing a final report in which Pentagon planners adopted criteria that judged all leased space as less desirable than owned buildings and the concentration of activities near Washington "as a negative."

He said the Defense Department acted improperly by singling out one area of the country for cutbacks, the Washington Post reported.

In all, the Pentagon plan would shut or trim 837 bases and save $49 billion over 20 years.

..........

I have a better idea --- stop funding "illegal aliens" -- that'll save billions of dollars for federal and state governments . . .

Constitution for the United States .

Article I

Congress shall "provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the militia, and for governing such part of them as may be employed in the service of the United States, reserving to the states respectively, the appointment of the officers, and the authority of training the militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;"

"No state shall, without the consent of Congress, . . . keep troops, or ships of war in time of peace, . . . or engage in war, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent danger as will not admit of delay"

Amendment II

"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. "

are we at war????
is there a threat that the several states are in "such imminent danger" from terrorist attacks ?????

the 'Commission,' the Defense Department nor the Pentagon has Constitutional authority to dismantle the militia's of the several states

and Congress has no authority to prohibit standing troops during a time of war
