A suspected illegal immigrant is in prison after running away after a passenger in his car suffered serious injuries in a crash early Sunday morning, according to Bensalem police.

Police said Jorge Morocho-Lojano, 40, of the Creekside Apartment complex, was driving his Ford Focus westbound on Street Road in Bensalem about 2 a.m. when he turned in front of another driver at the intersection with Knights Road. The other driver suffered minor injuries, police said. Morocho-Lojano's car also struck another vehicle which was turning from Street Road onto Knights Road, according to court records. Witnesses told police that after the collision, Morocho-Lojano ran into a neighborhood across from the Nifty Fifties restaurant.

His passenger, Daniel Herminio, was injured and taken to Aria Health's Torresdale campus. Information on his condition was not available Tuesday.

Police said they found Morocho-Lojano hiding in the backyard of a home on the 2900 block of Garden Lane. During an interview with a Spanish-speaking Upper Makefield officer later that morning Morocho-Lojano allegedly admitted being in the country illegally for about four years, according to court records.

He was arraigned before District Judge Leonard Brown on several charges including leaving the scene of an accident involving damage or injuries. He was sent to Bucks County prison on $150,000 bail.
