A lengthy human smuggling pursuit spanning nearly 70 miles ended when a Texas sheriff’s deputy was nearly struck by a suspect’s SUV during a bailout this week, according to authorities.

The incident unfolded on Sunday night in West Texas near the Mexico border.

A Terrell County Sheriff’s Office (TCSO) deputy attempted to pull over a suspicious vehicle when the driver began taking evasive action.

The deputy’s body-worn camera footage was provided to NewsNation correspondent Ali Bradley who published it on social media.

The deputy was “nearly hit by a human smuggling driver who led law enforcement on a nearly 70 mile pursuit through Terrell and Pecos counties last night as he was attempting to transport 11 undocumented individuals into the interior of the country,” Bradley reported, citing information provided to her by Terrell County Sheriff Thaddeus Cleveland.

While the driver and two illegal aliens were arrested at the scene, nine more illegals managed to escape and may still be on the loose.

The vehicle being used in the smuggling operation was registered to a Tango Blast Gang member at a residence in Midland, TX.
