Waukegan: She's staying -new Elvira, refuge in church

This was in La Raza today. There is a First Baptist in Waukegan -not sure from article if she's taking refuge there or still deciding?? Either way it looks like this local activist has wrought damage to Waukegan and I wish her well back in Mexico. So Emma Lozano is back in the news... There is a picture at the link if someone is able to post it.

    She’s Staying

On Monday, January 28, Flor Crisóstomo just might be continuing the fight started by Elvira Arellano, taking refuge in the same Adalberto Methodist Church. This woman’s other option is deportation to Mexico.

The decision to be taken by Flor Crisóstomo, a native of Oaxaca in Mexico, was still uncertain as of the close of this edition.

But that final decision might have been announced already in Waukegan last week during the night of Thursday, January 17, when she called a meeting with the people who accompanied her in protest campaign and boycott against the city government, which plans to certify its police officers under Federal Program 287 (g).

The meeting took place in the First Baptist Church at six o’clock in the evening, with no more than 20 people present. La Raza was the only communications medium represented. Flor was accompanied by Emma Lozano, Executive Director of the Centro Sin Fronteras.

Starting that night, Flor had 11 days until Monday, January 28, by when Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) says she must leave the country.

But first, Flor had to make two trips, one to Houston and another to New York, going through immigration checkpoints in the airports and running the risk of arrest.

[b]And so she bid farewell to her companions in Waukegan and announced the campaign “America Open Your Eyesâ€

"She blames this trade agreement between Mexico, the United States and Canada for her having to leave Mexico for this country and the many immigrants looking for jobs here."

It takes a lot of guts for any mexican to make such a statement ,when thanks to NAFTA, so many jobs of American citizens have gone to mexico.

Allowing someone who is in our country Illegally to remain for almost 2 yrs. after the arrest is asking for trouble and Flor is a good example.

Laws need to be changed to shorten the amount of appeals and require quicker deportation because this is just a un-necessary irritant to the citizens of our country .

Mexico would not put up with this kind of disruption so why should we ?

She added that so far she has never been asked for additional documents to fly. She made eight trips in 2007 using only her consular matricula.
    So much for airport security.
