Los Angeles, Alta California - January 26, 2006 - (ACN) In yet another case of "the chickens coming home to roost", former counter insurgency military soldiers from Guatemala and Mexico, trained by the former US Army's "School of the Americas" at Fort Benning, Georgia , are now working for powerful drug cartels to protect drug smugglers crossing the US/Mexico border. During the past week there have been a large number of news reports concerning military style incursions into the USA from Mexico. These incursions have been blamed on the Mexican Army by USA anti-immigrant nativists. The fact is that these incursions are by highly USA trained military commandos called "Los Kaibiles" and "Los Zetas" who are paid from $50,000 to $300,000 per mission.

"Los Kaibiles" are from Guatemala and they are now working in cooperation with "Los Zetas" of Mexico. Both groups were trained for counter insurgency operations in Guatemala and Mexico by the now defunct "School of the Americas" and are well equipped militarily. The drug cartels are also recruiting former "Green Berets" and other US veteran soldiers from Iraq and Afghanistan as paid mercenaries. These "Soldiers of Fortune" are highly paid to protect drug shipments crossing the border and to assassinate "competitors" and government officials who get in the way.

There was an incident on Monday southeast of El Paso, Texas were police authorities had a dangerous confrontation with heavily armed personnel in a military-style Humvee. The military commandos helped drug smugglers fleeing police to escape back across the border, according to the authorities. An internal Border Patrol summary of the incident said the Humvee was equipped with a .50-caliber machine gun. The Mexican Army is not equipped with Humvees nor with .50-caliber machine guns. These were most probably "Los Kaibiles", "Los Zetas" or commando units comprised of both groups.

T.J. Bonner, a Border Patrol veteran and president of the agents union, was being disingenuous when he said, "It's clear you're dealing with a large number of incursions by bona-fide Mexican military units, based on the tactics and the equipment being used". These statements are dangerous and mere propaganda by advocates of Mexican immigration crackdowns and of building a Berlin style wall along the US/Mexico border. The fact is that there is a big difference between Indigenous migrant workers, that cross the border to seek employment, and those who are involved in the highly lucrative drug market. The mixing of both together is a formula for an immense social, political and economic explosion that would adversely affect large populations on both sides of the border. Let us be reminded that even the CIA has been involved in the transnational drug trade. This was exposed by journalist Gary Webb of the San Jose Mercury News in a series of articles titled, "The Dark Alliance".

The fact is that the USA is rapidly being brought down by a nationally entrenched group of xenophobes who do not understand the world but who wield immense power. This group is responsible for the Iraq War, the coming catastrophic war against Iran, and the imminent collapse of the U.S. economy. You can hear their ignorant pundits and propagandists on the radio every day. The present crisis along the US/Mexico border is a consequence of USA foreign policy that has been practiced against Mexico, Central and South America for decades.
