Where illegals dare

TOP brass erupted in fury after learning how five illegal immigrants smuggled themselves INSIDE a frontline British military base aboard a convoy of Army lorries.

The stowaways are thought to have secretly sneaked on at Calais, boarding vehicles returning Land Rovers from Kosovo.

They were discovered only after they had passed through all security checks at the Duke of Gloucester Barracks in South Cerney, Gloucs.

The blunder left Army chiefs fuming and exposed alarming security flaws at the super-secure base – used to move troops, weapons and vehicles to Iraq and Afghanistan.

Two of the immigrants were found as shocked squaddies removed protective canopies from two of the low-loader lorries at the barracks.

But the remaining three were caught only after an extensive search when cops and sniffer dogs were called in.

Army Captain Giles Cutter said: “Fortunately there was a squadron on duty and a few burly Fijian soldiers wrestled the first two to the ground.

“We knew there was one left, so we called a round-up operation.

“In fact, a further three individuals were apprehended and we had them all lying on the floor with 35 young soldiers surrounding them.

“They all seemed very jovial and quite happy. They did not seem concerned they had jumped into an Army barracks.

“We have more vehicles coming in from the same operation – another two vehicles today – which will be searched.â€
