DONA ANA COUNTY, N.M. -- Two men accused of extortion against a Dona Ana County family were arrested Tuesday, Dona Ana County Sheriff's officials said.

Twenty-one-year-old Juan Moises Rosas and 35-year-old Victor Manuel Alvarez Ogaz allegedly threatened violence against the family if they were not paid $25,000.

Several threats were made at the family's business on Aug. 28, officials said. Rosas and Alvarez Ogaz then allegedly tried to contact the family at their business on Sunday.

On Tuesday, the suspects allegedly threatened the family again. An employee contacted authorities, who found Rosas and Alvarez Ogaz inside the business, officials said.

The suspects have been arrested and charged with extortion and conspiracy to commit extortion.

They are currently detained at the Dona Ana County Detention Center with $15,000 surety bond, and both have an immigration hold, sheriff's officials said.
