    Perry opposes civilian patrols
Spokesman: Governor believes border control up to government

MISSION, Texas – Gov. Rick Perry sympathizes with Texans who are frustrated with illegal immigration, but "he has no desire to see the Minuteman Project" or any other civilian patrols operating along the Texas-Mexico border, his spokesman said Friday.

"Border control and the enforcement of immigration laws are the responsibility of the federal government, and they're the ones who need to step up and take care of this issue," said Robert Black, a spokesman for the governor.

Eleven Texas senators on Thursday filed a resolution asking the governor to prevent the launch of a Minuteman-style project in Texas.

Sen. Juan Hinojosa, D-McAllen, said federal border guards don't need help from "untrained individuals who could ultimately pose serious danger to citizens and immigrants along the border region."

Civilian volunteers for the so-called Minuteman Project patrolled a 20-mile section of the border in Arizona in April, drawing nationwide attention to the problem of illegal immigration.

Since then, immigration reform advocates in Texas have been organizing a similar patrol, tentatively set for October.

Ron Ashcraft, 68, a piano technician and member of a Dallas group called Citizens for Immigration Reform, said he supports the effort.

"Citizens are trying to do what the federal government should have done years ago," he said. "It's the government's constitutional duty to protect our borders.

"The Minutemen are my heroes," he said.

I sent an email to Tracey Teaton of the Dallas newspaper supporting the MMP, explaining that unless Governor Perry has the power to influence this President to get National Guard Troops to his Border and stop this flow, then this Governor has no power at all. Therfore, he should accept and appreciate the assistance and courage of the MMP. I also pointed out that this isn't just about Texas and Texas has a duty to its fellow citizens in other states to stop this flow as illegals get into our states through Mexico and Texas. I also suggested that I could think of no reason why any Governor or other politicians would object to or wish to reject this assistance...unless there is something for them to GAIN from this illegal criminal activity....which might be worth investigating.

He's part of the government. Tell him to get off his butt and DO something besides sit on it! He could go out on the weekends and help the Border Patrol do their jobs, or would that be too much for his delicate sensibilities?

If the government would take care of this mess, the MMP would not be needed. And we DO need them. Someone has to do what our Border Patrol cannot do because the government will not give us enough of them to do the job!

Most of them. Texas, as you know is a very conservative state. See our execution rate for those given the death penalty. The ones that came out against it are the usual suspects. They will be rounded up in 2006, believe me.

I remember it. Some real weird stuff is going on here in Texas. My next door neighbor, Troy, is a member of the Aryan Brotherhood. In fact, he is the president of the local chapter. I know, me a black man, living next to a member in good standing of AB is strange. Especially the fact that we have not opened up on each other However, since he moved in about 5 years ago, we have become cordial. He is interested in a lot of the things that I am. This illegal immigrant issue has him, uh, riled up.
Troy says that AB is going to take "care of business" with MS-13. He read the article that I posted in the Dallas Mourning Blues. Troy is a good guy. He is a master mechanic and can fix anything on wheels. He told me he does not hate black people, he is just against inter-marriage. That is his belief. He comes over to play dominoes and drink whiskey when he can. We go over there when they invite us to parties. You should see the looks on my black friends faces when he is here and on his white friends faces when I am over there. Long story short: Strange alliances are being formed. I'll keep you posted. However, I can't quote Troy here.
