More than 1,000 pounds of marijuana seized in multiple drug busts (5:18 p.m.)

LAS CRUCES - Border Patrol agents in New Mexico made multiple drug seizures of marijuana over the weekend, totaling more than 1,080 pounds, valued at $864,432.

The largest seizure involved 395 pounds of marijuana discovered at the Highway 54 Traffic Checkpoint outside of Alamogordo, During a systematic inspection of a late-model GMC extended-cab pick-up truck, a Border Patrol canine alerted officers to the bed area of the pick-up, which was loaded with bails of hay that disguised several bundles wrapped in brown shipping tape and black plumber's tape. The contents of the bundles tested positive for marijuana.

On Friday, agents at the Highway 54 checkpoint also seized 124 pounds of marijuana in a 1997 GMC "Jimmy" SUV. Border Patrol agents in Lordsburg also made two separate seizures of marijuana in the amounts of 271 pounds and 180 pounds. Meanwhile, Las Cruces Border Patrol agents seized 109 pounds of marijuana in Hatch on Saturday after becoming suspicious of the driver of a 1994 Dodge Ram pickup.
