TWO RIVERS — Two people were arrested for opium possession Tuesday afternoon in Two Rivers by Manitowoc County Metro Drug Unit officers.

Sheng Lee, 23, of Two Rivers, and Soua Vang, 62, of Laos, were taken into custody and will be charged with possession of opium with intent to deliver.

A news release by Lt. Dave Remiker of the Metro Drug Unit goes on to detail:

The task force was notified by authorities from the Customs and Border Protection Office in Chicago that a package destined for delivery in Manitowoc contained about 11 pounds of material saturated with opium.

Metro Drug Unit officers were assisted by the United States Postal Service during a controlled delivery of the package on the north side of Manitowoc. The package was delivered to two female subjects who took the package to a residence in the 2300 block of 10th Street in Two Rivers.

Metro Drug Unit officers, with the assistance of the United States Drug Enforcement Agency, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Manitowoc Police Department, Two Rivers Police Department and the Manitowoc County Special Operations Squad, executed a search warrant at the Two Rivers address where additional opium material was located.

In total, about 16 pounds of material containing opium was seized.

The Immigration and Naturalization Service is detaining Vang for immigration violations.

Both people will be making court appearances this afternoon.
