WI: AG says IA's can't receive prof. licenses

I came across this old article. Wanted to ask our knowledgeable alipacers if other states do this. We need every tool available. Can a county have this regulation or can only a state decree this? They are fighting back with lawsuits, so we need to fight back with the law.

Wis. AG: Illegal immigrants can't receive licenses from state

    Associated Press - October 25, 2007 3:15 PM ET

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen says illegal immigrants cannot receive professional licenses or credentials from the state.

Van Hollen says in a formal legal opinion that the Department of Regulation and Licensing should verify the immigration status for all of those applying for professional licenses.

He says the department can do so by using a database operated by the Department of Homeland Security.

The department issues 128 different types of credentials in over 55 professional fields. They include many health and business professions.
