Bellevue

In the wake of draft resolutions on the issue of illegal immigration made by the city of Green Bay and other organizations such as Green Bay Advance, Bellevue is assessing what it should do, if anything, with respect to the topic.

"What should Brown County do for illegal immigrations — should we put it on the backs of businessmen, like Green Bay did?" village President Craig Beyl asked the Board at a recent meeting. "As a businessperson, with all of the paperwork required and the IRS checking on you, it's hard to hire someone who is illegal, unless you are doing it on a cash basis."

Trustee Kevin Brennan said he's "tired of communities passing ordinances to send a message to legislators."

Meanwhile, Trustee Dave Kaster said illegal immigrants put a "massive burden" on taxpayers, the social services system, law enforcement and hospitals.
