John McCain, insisting that his "day job" as a US Senator was taking too much of his time, has resisted debating JD Hayworth. Of course, that never stopped McCain when he was running for president. McCain finally agreed to debate JD Hayworth twice on television. As reported in Seeing Red Arizona:

The first debate will air on KTVK channel 3 in Phoenix at 7 p.m. on July 16.

The second will air on KUAT channel 6 in Tucson at 7 p.m. on July 17.

It will be interesting to see if the debates will focus on the issues. Based on McCain's campaign ads, McCain's interviews. and McCain's behavior during the Republican Presidential Primary, it will likely be a forum for McCain to make snide attacks on Hayworth.

McCain also insisted that Jim Deakin, a candidate consistently polling in single digits, be included in the debates. McCain, who is not typically polling above 50%, hopes that, like with his Presidential Primary in Arizona, he will have enough opposition candidates to allow him a victory even if he cannot get a majority of the votes.
