State lawmakers fail to pass bill targeting illegal immigrants
1:08 PM CDT, April 22, 2010
WITI-TV, MADISON - The state Senate has not passed a bill that would make companies that hire illegal aliens ineligible for tax breaks and government contracts.
Republican Minority Leader Scott Fitzgerald objected to taking a vote on the bill Thursday, which effectively kills it for the year.
The bill had bipartisan support but a coalition of business interests, including those representing the state's powerful dairy and manufacturing industries, are lobbying against it.
Under the measure, any company that has hired illegal immigrants would be ineligible for income or franchise tax credits or property tax exemptions for seven years. They would also be ineligible to receive state and local government contracts during that period.

I'm getting sick and tired of politicians that favor special interest groups over what's best for their (our) country as a whole.
