Will Shirley Temple disappear from the American Landscape ??
Will Shirley Temple disappear from the American Landscape ???
Dear American Friends :
Thanks for your posts and friendship to me. Things are not so bad. Perhaps many birds and species can be saved in the Andes and the Amazonian Basin.
Perhaps Big Business of America is not going to destroy the environments and enslave the Latin Americans. I am sure that Big Business and the Republicans are good for us and love us.
Perhaps IBM, Microsoft and Wal Mart are not so bad. But may help us latins a lot in our own land.
I can understand that you are scared of us Hispanics and our Invasion of your Land. But the worst nightmares of you will never be a reality. Hispanics are not going to take over the United States of America. And Spanish is never going to be the Official Language of the USA.
It would be more probable that English is the official language of Latin America, but that is so remote that it does not deserve a single second of thought. Why worry about the world in the year 5,000 ???
English is not going to disappear. Blonde little girls like Shirley Temple are still going to be seen in the American Landscape. Hey there are blonde girls here and they don't always have English or North European Names.
Whatever the outcome at the House of Representatives over CAFTA we should be friends, and we should stay together to analyze the outcome.
Immigration can be controlled with Computer Technology and with the help of Business Firms that migh give employment to illegals. You can send them back without the need of doing anything wrong or inhuman.
I want to point out the importance of FOREIGN POLICY. And I want to say something in a sweet and soft voice without hate or passion.
That if you persist in isolationism then the others may not be isolated. One of my wise uncles used to say that you had to go to all parties and social events, even if you were tired and bored of the people. My uncle said "If you hide then people will leave you hidden"..
So you will be left hidden under a bed while people have a wonderful party and time.
Don't hide from the World America, because you might be left hidden.
If you deny all Future or Present Trade Agreements with Latin America then they ( or us ) will seek partners in Europe, Japan, Korea or who knows where else.
Yes, we need you. But if you become super isolationists then we will have to look for dance partners elsewhere.
I acknowledge your uncomfort of "Illegal Aliens" but think long term. And control what can be controlled now by intelligent means.

clean up your own house before trying to dictate to us:
Colombia:
Violence Against Workers. Colombia continues to be the most dangerous country in the world for trade unionists.

Colombia
I. Summary
Colombia continues to be the world’s leading producer and distributor of cocaine and a significant supplier of heroin to the United States. In addition to supporting independent drug traffickers and cartels, the drug trade serves as a major source of funding for the leftist Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC), the hemisphere’s largest and oldest terrorist group, and the United Self Defense Forces of Colombia (AUC), a paramilitary organization. The AUC and the FARC each control areas within Colombia that have the greatest coca and poppy cultivation. Their involvement in the drug trade fuels continued violence as each group vies to gain or retain profitable territory. The Uribe Administration is making good on its promise to crack down on extralegal armed groups and the illegal drug trade that funds them. During CY 2002, the U.S. Attorney General announced indictments against leading members of the FARC and the AUC for drug trafficking charges – including FARC Secretariat member Jorge Briceno-Suarez, FARC 16th Front Commander Tomas Molina-Caracas, and Carlos Castaño-Gil and Salvatore Manuero-Gomez, the number one and two of the AUC. The Colombian Government continues apace to extradite Colombian nationals to the U.S. to face serious drug trafficking charges and other crimes.

Charlesoakisland :
Sorry friend if I offended you. That was not my intention.
I am not denying that Colombia became disorganized and chaotic thanks to drug trafficking and to big sales of drugs to the USA and Europe mainly.
The cost of this "War on Drugs" and Criminality has been in great part supported by Colombian themselves. That is thousands and thousands of civilian victims, Colombian policemen, Colombian Judges.
Billions of dollars lost in Legitimate Business, thanks to the ill fame of Crime and Narcos. And we Colombians universally hated or feared by the crimes of a few.
99% of the murdered people in this war have died in our land and not on the streets of New York or Los Angeles.
In the last years the crops have been clamped down and hundreds of criminals have been extradited to the USA.
I am not trying to dictate to you. How can I from the Third World dictate to the USA. It would be easier to do that the other way.
What I am posting here is about International Trade and Trade Agreements. I do not know if the House of Representatives is going to approve or deny the CAFTA.
But whatever the outcome I know that this is not going to be a Catastrophe or Disaster for the USA or for Central America, or for the whole of Latin America.
I am not trying to dictate ( that is what empires like the Roman Empire do ). I am just advising that there is no reason to fear us Hispanics to such extremes of panic and nightmares.
I acknowledge the right of every nation to patrol the borders and to deport or expel the Illegal Aliens. I am not posting here for "Open Gates" policy.
What I am posting here is for Sound Reason and a Rationale that the Apocalypse is not coming if there is a CAFTA or if CAFTA is denied by the House of Representatives.
But I am not a proconsul of the Roman Empire dictating from my curul seat. And my post was about legitimate Trade and not about Drugs or Crime. I assume that all nations should fight the drugs Traffic.
