Willcox Border Patrol Station arrested 49-year-old Jamie Lamont Baker, a U. S. citizen, after two illegal immigrants were discovered in the trunk of his Toyota Yaris.

Willcox Border Patrol agents stopped a human smuggling attempt at an area immigration checkpoint last week.

On Tuesday, Aug. 13, agents from the Willcox Border Patrol Station, working at the State Route 90 checkpoint, arrested 49 year-old Jamie Lamont Baker, a U. S. citizen, after two illegal immigrants were discovered in the trunk of his Toyota Yaris.

“The illegal immigrants, found to be in good health, were also arrested and will face removal proceedings,” said Tucson Sector spokeswoman Shevannah J. Wray.

The vehicle was seized and Baker faces possible prosecution, she added.

“Checkpoint operations play a vital role in preventing criminals from transporting contraband into the United States by restricting routes of egress from the border region,” Wray said.

Customs and Border Protection welcomes assistance from the community.
