U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized more than 13 pounds of meth after a woman attempted to smuggle it across a Brownsville bridge Saturday, according to a criminal complaint.

Christina Marek entered the U.S. from Mexico at the B&M International Bridge in a gray 2002 Ford F-150 on Saturday, according to the criminal complaint.

The 52-year-old woman was referred to a second inspection by officers, according to a new release.

After searching the vehicle, officers found seven plastic-wrapped packages containing a white, crystal-like substance, according to the criminal complaint.

Marek later told federal agents that she knowingly and intentionally attempted to transport narcotics across the border.

Marek was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute crystal methamphetamine.

Marek remains in federal custody. Her attorney couldn't be reached for comment.
