A 45-year-old Mexican woman faces up to six months in federal prison after pleading guilty Friday to trying to smuggle more than $110,000 in cash out of the country.
Maria Trinidad Rivera-Cabrera was arrested June 4 as she attempted to cross into Mexico through the DeConcini Port of Entry in Nogales, according to the indictment filed in U.S. District Court.
Rivera-Cabrera told customs officials she only had approximately $1,000 in cash on her, but further inspection determined in addition to the $1,034 in her purse she had hidden $110,000 in cash in a cooler she was carrying, according to the indictment.
Rivera-Cabrera is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 3 by U.S. District Court Judge David C. Bury.
