A group of 53 illegal immigrants was apprehended Wednesday morning just west of the San Pedro River, near the U.S.-Mexico border.

U.S. Border Patrol agents monitoring a video surveillance system in the area spotted the group just after midnight, said Colleen Agle, an agency spokeswoman.

Agents at the Naco station sent out the horse patrol, which was then assisted by an Office of Air and Marine helicopter, she said.

The 36 men, nine women, and eight children were not in distress when they were found, she said.
