Woman sentenced for luring immigrants to prostitution

A Venezuela native was sentenced to 27 months in prison after bringing three illegal immigrants into the U.S. to work as prostitutes, federal officials announced Friday.

Andrea Rodriguez, who lived in Chattanooga, Tenn., pleaded guilty in March to the crime. U.S. District Judge Harold Murphy handed down the sentence in the federal court's Northern District of Georgia.

Prosecutors said Rodriguez arranged three woman to travel from Venezuela to Tennessee, ostensibly to work in a restaurant Rodriguez owned. But when the women arrived in Chattanooga, they were told they would work as prostitutes.

One woman protested until Rodriguez allegedly told the woman she owed her $10,000 for bringing her into the country. Rodriguez then took the woman to Dalton and Calhoun to work as a prostitute, authorities said.

Murphy also sentenced Rodriguez to three years of supervised release after she completes her prison sentence.
