Woman who stole IDs on trail sentenced

PEORIA - A California woman was sentenced to federal prison Friday for illegally using identification and credit cards taken from cars parked along the Rock Island Trail in 2003.

Abertha Horo pleaded guilty in May to access device fraud and identity fraud in connection with the string of burglaries along the trail in the fall of 2003. She was sentenced to 41 months in prison on each count, to be served concurrently.

According to her plea agreement, she and two others broke into several cars along the trail in Alta and took money, IDs and credit cards. She and another man, Fritz L. Drexler, were arrested, but she bonded out and fled the area before authorities realized she had given them an assumed name.

Earlier this year, Horo was arrested and returned to central Illinois. According to her plea agreement, she was an undocumented alien living in California and came to Illinois to repay a loan from one of the men who did the break-ins.

Drexler, himself an illegal immigrant from Peru, was sentenced in 2004 to 33 months in prison and ordered to pay $29,652 in restitution, which Horo also must pay as well.

When Horo is released from custody, she will serve a three-year period of supervised release, the federal version of probation.

    gofer,
Do you see why all those illegals are here? They know that they can violate this country's law, and are not deported, they are treated in the court system as citizens, only that their penalties are consider as misdemeanors.
