Man ID'd in lineup indicted in 3rd rape

    By DEANNA BOYD
    Star-Telegram Staff Writer

FORT WORTH - A Fort Worth man indicted in two rapes and suspected in roughly a dozen other sexual attacks dating to December 2004 now stands accused in the February burglary and sexual assault of a Haltom City woman.

Jose G. Carrillo, 31, was charged Friday with burglary of a habitation with intent to commit felony sexual assault, a first-degree felony, Tarrant County court records show.

Prosecutor Christy Jack said the charge was added after the woman picked Carrillo out of a live lineup as her attacker.

Carrillo, who authorities say is an illegal immigrant, was in federal custody on an immigration hold in March when, authorities say, DNA evidence linked him to the June 17, 2005, rape of a woman at the Meridian apartments on Marine Creek Parkway and the Jan. 24 rape of a woman in the 1000 block of Northwest 28th Street. As a result, prosecutors filed two charges of aggravated sexual assault against him.

The rapes were just two of more than a dozen sexual attacks and robberies that Carrillo is suspected of having committed. In the earlier attacks, police say, a masked man armed with a kitchen knife attacked women in their homes or as they were arriving or leaving.

In the later attacks, police say, the assailant changed his method of operation. Although he usually still wore a ski mask, he confronted his victims as they walked down the road or were getting in their cars, displaying a rope during the attacks and in many cases placing it around his victim’s neck, police said.

Carrillo has denied involvement. He remains in the Tarrant County Jail awaiting trial.

In the Haltom City case, Jack said, the suspect entered the home through an unlocked door, surprising the victim, who had been waiting for her husband, a trucker, and whose children were asleep.

“It was clear that it was a home invasion and he was intent upon sexually assaulting the victim,” Jack said.

Jack said the man, who did not conceal his face, told the woman that he had a knife but never displayed one. He told her that if she went to the police, her children’s lives would be endangered, Jack said.

She said Carrillo’s possible connection to the Haltom City attack surfaced during the Tarrant County district attorney’s ongoing grand jury investigation of the case. She said the victim has since moved to another Texas city.

“The Tarrant County district attorney’s office with the help of the Fort Worth Police Department and the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department were able to fly the victim in, and she was able to identify him in a live lineup,” Jack said.

Since the President seems oblivious to crimes committed by illegals, maybe they should let this criminal serve out his time in the custody of George and Laura Bush.
