    Guatemalans Face US Repatriation

Guatemala - The United States has repatriated 9,758 illegal Guatemalans so far this year, nearly 35 percent of all nationals deported in 2008, it was reported here.

The report was published on the website of the Guatemalan National General Migration Office, according to which 8,516 men, 992 women and 250 minors have been repatriated from the United States this year.

Statistics show that the number of illegal Guatemalans deported this year accounts for exactly 34.78 percent of 28,051 nationals repatriated by US migration authorities in 2008.

The Foreign Ministry noted that 60 percent of 1.2 million Guatemalans living in the United States are illegal.

Officials from the Foreign Ministry have urged Guatemalans not to travel illegally to the United States, as controls on the Mexican border are too strict.

In statements to the newspaper Prensa Libre, Guatemalan Deputy Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Ibarra described the technical methods used by the border patrol to detect illegal immigrants, including underground cameras, infrared trackers, and movement, smell and temperature detectors along the wall.

These elements have been strongly criticized by authorities from Mexico and other countries.

Illegals from all countries must get out of America asap!

I wonder how much the 1.2 million Guatemalans cost the American tax payers? Even if the illegals pay taxes it doesn't compare to how much they cost us in social service and infrastructural damage.

    How about BECAUSE IT'S ILLEGAL!!!!!!!

Who does Mexico (and other countries) think they are to criticize our enforcing our laws. Just because Mexico is lawless doesn't mean our great country needs to be. Or do they propose one set of laws for Americans and another more lenient set of laws for illegals.

Frankly the majority of legal Guatemalans are net negative taxpayers also.
I support enforcement and see its lack as bad for the 3rd World as well. Remittances are now mostly spent on consumption not production assets. Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

The Mexicans of course do not criticize their own measures against the Guatemalans
