Illegal Immigrants Are Burden

Crimes February 13, 2010

In response to the Feb. 7 article about granting temporary citizenship status to Haitians displaced by the earthquake [CTNow, "Legalizing Their Status"]:

I was greatly disgusted that this article focused not on a displaced earthquake victim, but on a Haitian who has been living in Hartford illegally since August. The article was written to make the reader feel sorry for this man.

Yes, Jean Dener Gourdet has a hard life, but the fact remains he entered this country illegally and remains here illegally. Why should he benefit from our country, our jobs and our programs? He is in a different position than the earthquake victims. Granted, his home in Haiti is likely destroyed, but that does not dismiss the fact that he is here illegally.

If we as a country continue to turn a blind eye to the millions who enter and live here illegally, we taxpayers will continue to bear the brunt of these crimes. America is filled with freedoms and opportunities, but shouldn't people have to obtain those things in a legal and just way?
