Border agents, air crews come to aid of migrants in distress

TUCSON, AZ (KOLD News 13) - U.S. Border Patrol agents partnered with air crews to rescue medically distressed migrants in two separate events west of Tucson on Thursday, May 2.

At about 11 a.m., two agents from the Ajo Station encountered two people in a remote canyon in the Ajo Mountains. A Pinal County Sheriff’s Office helicopter was dispatched to airlift a 35-year-old Honduran man to a hospital for a suspected bone fracture.

Later, agents from the Three Points Station, along with a team from Border Patrol Search Trauma and Rescue (Borstar) responded to a 911 call from two lost people. An Air and Marine Operations helicopter was dispatched and the crew spotted the two men and directed the agents to their location. The pair were suffering from severe dehydration and mild hypothermia.

Borstar agents administered intravenous fluids and built a small fire to help stabilize the cold men.

All of the men were stabilized and now are facing federal immigration charges related to illegal entry in to the U.S.
