Zapata County Sheriff Says More Communication Needed to Protect Border

ZAPATA COUNTY - As the president calls for immigration reform, one border sheriff is also calling for change. He has a very different take on what the true struggles are along the border.

Sheriff Sigifredo Gonzalez is the top cop in Zapata County. He'll testify Wednesday at a Homeland Security hearing about how a wide open border is giving cartels and terrorists the chance to walk right into the United States.

Mexican marines landed on an island near Nuevo Guerrero on Sunday and engaged in a gunbattle. The marines killed 12 Zetas using the island to store drugs they smuggled into Zapata County, just a few miles away from the gun fight.
