President Bush's poll numbers have hit a post-holiday funk, said pollster John Zogby, who released a poll Sunday showing Bush's approval rating at 39% -- a drop of 5 percentage points from December.

The war in Iraq continues to drag down Bush's approval rating -- particularly among Democrats and independents. Just 11% of Democrats said they thought Bush was doing a good job managing the war, while 28% of independents gave him good marks on Iraq.

“The numbers in support for the war in Iraq are extremely low among Democrats and independents, Zogby said. “This is a partisan war.

Overall, 34% of respondents said Bush was doing a good or excellent job managing the war. That is down from 38% approval on Iraq in Zogby's October survey.

Zogby said the drop in support among the investor class -- whose approval on Iraq dropped from 45% to 40% -- has also hurt Bush.

The last Zogby survey on Bush, released Dec. 21, had his approval rating at 44%. That poll was released shortly after Bush completed a number of speeches touting the successes in Iraq.
