Child Rape at U.S.- Mexico Border
This news report was created by 10News in San Diego. It was part of an article entitled "Women, Children Raped in County's 'Most Dangerous Area'" where Estela De Los Rios of the Center for Social Advocacy describes a case where "a 12-year-old was raped to death" probably due to hemorrhaging from the violence of the attack.
One would like to think that groups like MALDEF, the Natl. Council for la Raza, or other Latino activist organizations would be concerned about these attacks, but they aren't because combating them has nothing to do with gaining political power. They'd rather obstruct the law enforcement at the border and thus allow the rape of women and children to occur at the border with impunity. Also, since the criminal organizations involved with these crimes make creditable threats, Latino activist groups will avoid discussion of them. Finally, there is the issue of image and the "code of silence" and so they'll nothing if not obstruct public knowledge about them.
There is a lot of news coverage for Chelsea King and Amber DuBois, however there is next to nothing for what happens at the border as well as the crimes connected with the porous border such as human smuggling and sex trafficking which victimize immigrants. Truly, there is a strong and compelling HUMANITARIAN argument for securing the border for the sake of the safety of immigrants. The securing of the border and bringing law and order there needs to be included with any viable plan for legalization of immigrants.Join our FIGHT AGAINST illegal immigration & to secure US borders by joining our E-mail Alerts at http://eepurl.com/cktGTn
