In this 17 October 2026 published video, host Asmongold TV talks about the riot distruction happening in France.
France has been gripped by its worst riots in years, leading to the arrest of over 1,200 people nationwide. What began as targeted student demonstrations in September escalated into massive, countrywide unrest on Saturday, October 17, 2026. More than 550,000 people took to the streets, bringing together secondary school students, trade unions, and a revival of the “Yellow Vest” movement to protest soaring inflation, education standards, and a strict austerity budget.
The demonstrations quickly shifted from peaceful marches into intense street battles between police and masked rioters. In Paris, whole streets were devastated. Rioters torched parked cars, smashed banks, and systematically looted major retail shops like Galeries Lafayette, Lacoste, and mobile phone stores. Fires broke out at several local town halls and municipal buildings across France. In Lyon, the city’s tourist office was completely burned down, while a major fire gutted the town hall in Limoges. The French government deployed thousands of riot police who used tear gas, baton charges, and water cannons to clear core hubs like Paris’s Place de la République. At least 150 police officers have been injured in the clashes. Public infrastructure has faced severe disruption, disabling most of the Paris Metro lines. Mass walkouts also forced approximately 90 percent of pharmacies across France to close.
The current unrest represents a convergence of deep financial and social frustrations across multiple generations. The movements originally kicked off when hundreds of thousands of high school students began protesting severe staff shortages and crumbling, dilapidated facilities in their schools.
Public anger exploded following the introduction of a draft €44 billion ($52 billion) budget designed to slash national debt. Trade unions have condemned the budget as a burden that heavily taxes the working class while shielding the ultra-wealthy. Broad sectors of French society joined the students to protest dramatic price spikes in fuel, energy, and everyday food items.
The crisis deepens severe political polarization as France prepares for its upcoming presidential election to replace Emmanuel Macron. While President Macron has issued strong warnings stating that looters will be “prosecuted and punished”, political analysts report that the ongoing chaos is heavily fueling the platforms of hard-left leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon and far-right figure Marine Le Pen ahead of the vote.
