Florida Studies Reveal Huge Increase in Cost of Illegal Immigration and Widespread Voter Dissatisfaction

    WASHINGTON, April 9

Cost Study and Zogby Poll Offer Comprehensive Statewide Assessment

WASHINGTON, April 9 -- Simultaneous studies, released this week by the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), show soaring costs of illegal immigration in Florida and demonstrate strong voter objections to the burdens placed on them by illegal immigration. A new Zogby International poll of 801 likely voters across the state found that, by an overwhelming margin, Floridians believe that illegal immigration is harming their state. Their perceptions are rooted in reality. A separate FAIR study, the Costs of Illegal Immigration to Floridians found that providing education and health care to illegal aliens and their families, and incarcerating criminal illegal aliens, costs state taxpayers more than $3.8 billion annually, more than double the costs measured in 2005.

The Costs of Illegal Immigration to Floridians found that taxpayers spend:
$3.4 billion a year to educate illegal immigrant children and the U.S. born children of illegal immigrants.$290 million a year on unreimbursed health care for illegal aliens.$90 million a year to incarcerate criminal illegal aliens. The total represents an annual cost to each of Florida's native-born headed households of $678.

The cost study also determined that the illegal alien population in Florida is now 950,000 persons. This represents 7.3 percent of the national total illegal alien population, and it is the nation's fourth largest concentration of illegal aliens after California, Texas and New York. It is also about 5.2 percent of Florida's overall population.

    The Zogby poll found that:
71.3% of Florida voters say illegal immigration has a negative impact on the state. Only 14.4% believe it has a positive impact on Florida.83.5% of Florida voters believe illegal aliens have a negative impact on the state budget, versus only 7.9% who believe their impact is positive.57.5% believe illegal immigration should be reduced through better enforcement of immigration laws. Only 36% of Florida voters favor amnesty or legalization for current illegal aliens.68.6% of Florida voters want worksite immigration enforcement to continue. Only 21.1% support the Obama administration's decision to curtail worksite enforcement.

"Voters in Florida, like voters everywhere, want their elected officials in Washington and Tallahassee to protect their interests, their jobs, and their tax dollars from the impact of mass illegal immigration," said Stein. "At a time when the Obama administration is intent on systematically dismantling immigration enforcement, and congressional leaders are considering a new round of amnesty legislation, voters in this key state are saying unequivocally that it is time political leaders stopped pandering to the illegal immigration lobby, and started enforcing laws that serve the interests of ordinary Americans."

These people need to get busier than taking a poll.

Attrition through enforcement is the answer to all those naysayers that say we can't deport 12 million illegal aliens!

Of course anyone with any common sense knows we have a lot more than 12 million illegal aliens residing within our borders.

[/quote]Of course anyone with any common sense knows we have a lot more than 12 million illegal aliens residing within our borders.

Again, that's a word game. Usually they say 12 million "workers". 12 million workers and who knows how many others with each one, wife, parents, siblings etc., children and then anchor babies. I wonder how they can guess 12 million working, if there isn't some information that says maybe through questionable bogus ID's and ITN (?) numbers, that they know of 12 million working, but that doesn't cover the ones they don't know about, for which there is no means to trace then.

sorry goofed with the quote thing.

Greetings to everyone from a "brand new" disgruntled American tax payer, newly laid off from work.

I am a native-born Floridian and I can tell you that we truly are fed up with the illegal alien problem. Americans have a difficult time getting jobs here in Florida if we can't speak Spanish. How fair is that? I'm a senior citizen (STRIKE ONE), am not endowed with the now required, and almost mandatory bilingualism skills needed in order to be seriously considered for being given an interview for a job (STRIKE TWO & THREE), which is a form of discrimination if you ask me.

No other country requires or forces its citizens to adopt the language of non-native people who enter their borders. Another observation is that, MOST of the citizens of other countries have a beautiful command of the English language. The gate-crashers who enter our borders illegally are arrogant, stubborn, pushy, needy people who want to be catered to and have no intentions of adapting to this country the way other people entering legally into this country have done. They learn just so much--whatever will benefit them ("how do I get medicaid?" for example, etc.)

Remember Ellis Island and the orderly and dignified manner in which these proud, law-abiding people conducted themselves as they diligently prepared for their citizenship? Very different from what's going on now with this massive influx of illegals.

Apparently the smallest numbers included in these polls, the numbers that show the percentages of people who're advocating amnesty, are from the illegals themselves, or from the politicians who will benefit from allowing these people to be rewarded for their law-breaking activities.

This self-serving, crooked administration who's pushing for amnesty want these illegals to get legal status as quickly as possible in order for them to be able to be included in the upcoming 2010 census, and ultimately enabling them to legally register and vote for them in the not so distant 2012 elections. This is why the great rush and the push to get this done in 2009! This is an outrage and an Obamanation!

Oh, to clarify, I'm not a newly disgruntled tax payer. What I meant to say was, I'm "new" to this forum!

Thanks for the hardy welcome, builditnow.

Yes, it is insane, and the worst of it is, it's probably going to happen! Our politicians exhibit such blatant disregard for the will of the people. "He's" determined to ram this through before the end of the summer, well before the census begins to be taken next year. MORE VOTERS! MORE CAMPAIGN DONATIONS!
