What is sad is that in Miami Dade County you can get your GED in Spanish.

Related article. Illinois has been told by the federal government that they may no longer give the IMAGE test -in Spanish. The language deficient students must take the Illinois state test. I never ever thought of this though...what if Illinois says, well then we will just print the state test in Spanish...

State making English learners take same standardized tests as pros

Students new to English will take the same state tests as their English-speaking peers this year.
The switch, ordered by the Illinois State Board of Education, could sink test scores across the suburbs.
And, like other recent overhauls of the state assessment system, it will make comparisons between future and prior years' test scores invalid.
All third- through eighth-graders, no matter how new to English, now must take the Illinois State Assessment Test this spring; and all high school juniors must take the Prairie State Achievement Exam, which includes the ACT.
In the past, English learners took the Illinois Measure of Annual Growth in English test, written in simpler English.
The decision to drop the IMAGE test has rankled local educators, who say non-native speakers will struggle unfairly to meet standards set by the federal No Child Left Behind law...........Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

People who are here for any length of time and don't speak English make me sick. I wish I could have had a video camera with me at immigration today. If that was put on TV then people would see how bad it is in some areas. There was a young man who I would guess was between 18 and 22 years of age. He did not even know when they called his number for finger prints. In fact he was totally lost when English was spoken. At least I was glad that they did not cater to him in Spanish.

Wasn't there a group of hispanic parents in CA years ago that wanted their kids taught in English only? Whatever happened with that?
