    Ever get the feeling that modest official inflation figures don't tally with your ever-rising household expenses?

    According to the latest consumer price inflation figures, the cost of goods and services in December rose annually just 2.7 per cent. The Reserve Bank's preferred inflation measure came in at a decade-low 2.25 per cent.

    Turns out, though, that the cost of living is rising about 60 per cent faster than the headline CPI figure, or at a 4.6 per cent pace, for the year to September, according to JP Morgan.
