60% in Florida Favor Arizona-Like Immigration Law in Their State
    Saturday, August 14, 2010

Most voters in Florida support an immigration law like the one recently passed in Arizona in their state.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds that 60% of Likely Voters in the state favor a similar immigration law in Florida, which is in line with national findings. Twenty-seven percent oppose such a law, and 13% are not sure one way or the other.

The percentage of supporters has held fairly steady since last month, when 62% supported an Arizona-like immigration law. Platinum Members can see state-by-state results from across the country. Only four states have support below 50% and three top 70%.

That same month, 60% of Florida voters also opposed the U.S. Justice Department’s challenge of Arizona’s immigration law.

This statewide telephone survey of 750 Likely Voters in Florida was conducted on August 9, 2010 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error is +/-4 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence. Field work for all Rasmussen Reports surveys is conducted by Pulse Opinion Research, LLC. See methodology.

The majority of Republicans and voters not affiliated with either major political party support an immigration law in Florida, while Democrats are more divided.

A majority of white voters favor the law, while a majority of voters of other ethnicities oppose it. African-American voters are more evenly divided on the issue.

Fifty-eight percent (58%) in Florida believe that a child born in the United States to an illegal immigrant should not automatically become a citizen of the United States. Twenty-nine percent (29%) disagree and think such a child should automatically become a citizen. Another 13% of voters are not sure.

Most voters (54%) in the state say that allowing individual states to act on their own to enforce immigration laws is a better approach to dealing with immigration. This is also very similar to opinions on the national level. One-in-three voters (35%) think it is better to rely on the federal government to enforce immigration laws. Eleven percent (11%) are not sure which is a better option.

Fifty percent (50%) of Democrats think it is better to leave immigration enforcement to the federal government, while most Republicans and unaffiliated voters hold the opposite view.

Ah yes, Florida, the production headquarters of our dear propagandist friends at Univision. No doubt, those cretins will cry racism upon hearing of this poll ... but what is actually more probable is that they'll neglect to report it entirely.

When it comes to piecemeal invasion (I don't call it "illegal immigration", since the use of the word "immigration" would imply lawfulness and morality), as well as every other issue, I prefer to emphasize what's factually and constitutionally correct rather than what the majority wills. After all, our Founding Fathers installed a republic in order to avoid the pitfalls of pure democracy.

The opinions of a voting majority can indeed be useful to reflect the reality of a situation, but I make it a point to avoid the idea that the majority is always right. An impassioned mass is just as easily rallied in support of ends destructive to liberty and sovereignty as an educated electorate is directed towards goals supportive of justice.

I'm the first member of my family to be born in the United States and I speak fluent Spanish. It irritates me to no end that while my parents went through all the hoops and hassle of immigrating lawfully from Colombia and later being naturalized, we've got these invaders from Mexico who either (a) Feel a misplaced sense of entitlement towards the American southwest or (b) Harbor outright contempt for the United States.

All this goes on while Spanish-language corporations like Univision -- privileged to do business in our country -- misleadingly use the word "immigrants" to refer to legal residents and illegal aliens alike, or employ outrageously deceitful phrases such as "anti-immigrant law" in reference to Arizona's SB1070. The goal of media networks such as Univision is to indoctrinate peaceful, good-willed Hispanic Americans into this Reconquista, La Raza garbage; pure and simple.

I've had just about enough of this nonsense. America is for us, the Americans, not foreign nationals depressing our wages, depriving us of jobs, and devouring our tax money into a black hole. The illegal aliens may be nothing more than pawns of the globalist elite who don't know any better, but that doesn't make their invasion of the United States any less harmful to our nation.

    Deport the invaders.
    English is our language.
    No Amnesty.

Actually one of the Spanish channels had a poll and the majority of the people who replied wanted more immigration enforcement. I know that many Cubans who came here pre 1980's do as do many South Americans who came here legally. They know that illegals are making them look bad and they are fed up with it.

You do see glimpses of journalistic integrity every once in a while on Univision, and somewhat more frequently on their creatures Galavision and Telefutura. I wouldn't say that Univision is evil incarnate (that dubious honor belongs to MSNBC), but for the most part, their executives have an agenda and we all know what it is. I stopped taking their news and talk shows seriously once I realized they were simply a mouthpiece for the illegal aliens.

It is worth noting how opinions of the invasion break down in our Hispanic immigrant population. In my experience, South American immigrants tend to hold more allegiance to the United States and want secure borders. Cubans not only fall into the same camp on piecemeal invasion, but I've also observed that they appreciate the 2nd Amendment and private property rights more than other Hispanic immigrant groups ... most assuredly due to the oppressive Communist regime in Cuba.

Mexican immigrants and other Americans of Mexican descent, however, seem more intensely split on the issue with an ever-growing contingent lobbying for open borders and socialism. There is a sort of "anti-gringo" playfulness throughout Latin America, but in Mexico, they apparently take it seriously.

Hey, in the end, if you're an illegal alien who's coming here to trash our country and its people while parasitically feeding off our public/social services, I don't care where you invaded us from: GET OUT OF HERE.

Several million of the over twenty million or so illegal aliens in the United States are not even Mexican. There is a sizable fraction of them who hail from Russia and eastern Europe, and here in New York City, illegal aliens from China and North Korea are frequently apprehended and deported.

Coincidentally, only the Mexican illegal aliens are left unmolested.

Welcome to ALIPAC! My friend waited years and years to come here legally, then more to become a citizen. Like you, he is unhappy about illegal aliens. He wondered why even bother to wait when you can just come and later congress will fix it for you? That is so unfair.

I agree but would like to add one thing. The ones that I have seen and heard of being deported the most are Canadians. They have a harder time immigrating here legally as well. My daughter and I went through it. I have a friend whose brother has a restaurant on Hollywood Beach. During the tourist season they get alot of Frenhc Canadians in the area so the restaurant owner will hire one or two of the for the season. The only laws they are breaking is working illegally and possibly not paying income tax just like the illegals. After 5 to 7 months they go back to Canada. Immigration would show up and pick up the Canadians but the Mexicans and Central Americans in the kitchen are not even asked for ID. This same scenario plays out every winter all over South Florida.

From what I read in the comments after immigration articles in the Miami Herald and Sun Sentinel the people who are most angry about illegals and possible amnesty are those who immigrated here themselves or their spouses or close relatives did. They know what it's like to wait for what seems like eternity for each step of the process. I went through it and know first had what it's like. I recall looking up greencard quotas and the greencard lottery and found many of those here illegally have larger quotas than many other countries plus many of them qualify for the greencard lottery. They also have to wait less for their immigration papers to get processed. That is found on a website called track it. We used it when we were going through the process and it was really eye openner.
