SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- A new poll out this morning finds widespread support for restrictions on illegal immigrants in Utah.

Nearly 80 percent of residents surveyed for the "Deseret Morning News" said Utah "definitely should" enact more restrictive measures. They were asked if employers should do more to verify a worker's status, and if the state should demand proof before giving public benefits.

A slim majority favored allowing illegal immigrants to continue to pay the in-state tuition rate at public colleges.

The survey of 416 Utah residents was conducted last week by Dan Jones and Associates. It has an error margin of five percentage points.
