$245M in military contracts announced Thursday

Military contracts totaling about $245 million to San Diego County companies were announced Thursday by the Department of Defense. Here's the list:

Harper Construction Co. of San Diego has been awarded a $68.7 million contract for design and construction of two bachelor enlisted quarters at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton. The quarters will house a total of 860 Marines.
The work will be performed in Oceanside and is expected to be completed by October 2013.

The Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Southwest in San Diego awarded the contract (N62473-11-C-0406).

Bilbro Construction Co. of Escondido has been awarded a $15.4 million order under a previously awarded contract (N62473-09-D-1653) to renovate the Advanced Electronic School Building 3143 at Naval Base San Diego.

Bilbro will perform renovation to meet current regulations for fire protection, anti-terrorism force protection and the American Disability/Architectural Barriers Acts.

The project will seismically upgrade the building; remove asbestos and lead base paint; replace a deteriorated build-up roofing system with single-ply roof system; repair and replace electrical wirings and improve fire sprinkler systems.

Work is expected to be completed by Oct., 2013. Contract funds will expire at the end of the current fiscal year.

Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Southwest in San Diego awarded the contract.

Northrop Grumman Integrated Systems in Rancho Bernardo has been awarded a $48.7 million award for its Global Hawk Systems drone system. Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio, awarded the contract (FA8620-11-C-3004 P0009).

Northrop Grumman Space & Mission Systems Corp. in Rancho Bernardo has been awarded a $47 million contract for the Trinity Program.

The program seeks to develop a "navigation warfare sensor" that could replace traditional Global Positioning System receivers on a variety of Department of Defense platforms.

The department says this will ensure that more weapon systems can operate in what it calls "highly challenged electromagnetic environments." This will give the weapons systems more ability to assist in electronic support operations.

Wright-Patterson Air Force base, Ohio, is the contracting activity.

Poway's General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. has been awarded a $65 million contract (FA8650-11-D-1193 0001), for a long list of services and supplies related to its Predator military drones.

The contract calls for:

Retrofitting 31 fixed ground control stations;

43 mobile ground control stations (MGCS);

24 dual control ground control stations;

One multi-aircraft control ground control station;

Three system integration laboratories;

One multi-aircraft control system integration laboratory;

26 Predator mission aircrew training systems;

Three MGCS for Foreign Military Sales to the United Kingdom and associated spares.

Two other companies were granted the same contracts. They are Rockwell Collins, Inc., Government Systems, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Also, Raytheon Co., Space and Airborne Systems, El Segundo.

The contracts were awarded by Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio.
