SUMAS, Wash. -- Customs officers arrested a Surrey, B.C. man after they said he tried to smuggle $2 million worth of ecstasy tablets across the Canadian border on Thursday.

The 52-year-old was entering Washington state at the Sumas border crossing in a tractor-trailer rig shortly after 2 a.m. An X-ray image showed boxes of vacuum-sealed bags of pills, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers said.

It was the ninth major ecstasy seizure in the area in one year, officials said.
