Drug agents seized nearly 41,000 marijuana plants over the weekend.
NORTH COUNTY — Drug agents seized an estimated $41 million worth of marijuana over the weekend from private property in an unincorporated area of Warner Springs called Sunshine Summit, authorities announced Monday.
It took 35 officers and agents from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency and San Diego County Narcotics Task Force two days to dismantle the operation, which had about 41,000 marijuana plants and was based on a 40-acre parcel of private property, the DEA said.
Water was supplied to the plants by two large water tanks. Agents and task force members also found a 30-round semi-automatic firearm magazine and chemical fertilizers near the tanks.
No arrests were made and the investigation is ongoing, the DEA said.
The amount of plants confiscated was significant based on recent seizures by the Narcotics Task Force.
In all of 2011, the task force confiscated nearly 200,000 marijuana plants. The largest seizure last year was 20,000 plants on U.S. Forest Service land on Palomar Mountain.
