3.8 magnitude earthquake recorded today in Oklahoma

The U.S. Geological Survey recorded a 3.8 magnitude earthquake in Oklahoma earlier today.

The temblor recorded 6:37 a.m. about 5 miles east-northeast of Cherokee, which is in Alfalfa County, just south of the Kansas border.

This is the largest Cherokee area quake recorded since a 4.0 magnitude on Friday.

Oklahoma also recorded four quakes on Monday:
- 3.5 magnitude 4:09 p.m. south of Perry
- 3.1 magnitude south-southeast of Medford
- 2.9 magnitude 2:24 p.m. northeast of Cherokee
- 2.6 magnitude 4:06 p.m. west of Stillwater

During the past seven days, Oklahoma recorded 27 earthquakes.

During the past 30 days, Oklahoma recorded 186 earthquakes of at least 2.5 magnitude.

The largest during that timeframe was a 4.3 magnitude temblor Jan. 26 near Medford, according to the USGS.
