They were brave heros but it was an urban myth that they never lost a bomber, which has been disproved.

According to the March 28, 2007, Air Force report, however, some bombers under 332nd Fighter Group escort protection were shot down on the very day the Chicago Defender article was published.[15][16][17][18] The subsequent report, based on after-mission reports filed by both the bomber units and Tuskegee fighter groups as well as missing air crew records and witness testimony, was released in March 2007 and documented 25 bombers shot down by enemy fighter aircraft while being escorted by the Tuskegee Airmen.[19]

Bill Holloman, a Tuskegee airman who taught black studies at the University of Washington and now chairs the Airmen's history committee, was reported by the Times as saying his review of records did confirm lost bombers, but "the Tuskegee story is about pilots who rose above adversity and discrimination and opened a door once closed to black America — not about whether their record is perfect."[20]

One mission report states that on July 26, 1944: "1 B-24 seen spiraling out of formation in T/A (target area) after attack by E/A (enemy aircraft). No chutes seen to open." A second report, dated August 31, 1944, praises group commander Colonel Davis by saying he "so skillfully disposed his squadrons that in spite of the large number of enemy fighters, the bomber formation suffered only a few losses."[21]

He had no illusions. But then strapped into an F4U1A and usually outnumbered by the Zekes from Rabaul, I guess you would learn to live without illusions.

I suppose it could have been worse. They could have had Louis Farrakhan, Al Sharpton and the Rev.Wright. Viewed from that perspective, RuPaul doesn't sound so bad! Although having a child hold up the picture of the thug and butcher OJ Simpson is a complete disgrace.

In any event, you would think that teachers within a district that has such a high drop out rate would have better sense. I guess not.

A few good choices (off the top of my head):

George Washington Carver, Alex Haley, Rosa Parks, Jesse Owens, Booker T. Washington, Mae Jemison, Jackie Robinson, and Barbara Jordan would have been good choices.

Tbow009, you are the man. I LOVE Neil DeGrasse Tyson. I particularly love how he can so easily destroy smug atheists like Richard Dawkins, because hardline idiot atheist scientists like Dawkins are being proved wrong with projects like CERN that are actually proving God exists. I just wish religion could co-exist with the actual science that is being proven in recent years without the flat out denial by bible thumpers. The religious, including christians AND muslims have closed their minds so much, that proven science can't sway their beliefs. Once that happens, the atheists are finally given their proof that yes, there is a conscience that is controlling things (as seen at the sub-atomic level) and that can only show that it is God, or a creator of some sort, and the religious are shown that their book is actually written by man to understand the life they knew 2000+ years ago.
