4 Killed, 22 Wounded In Weekend Shootings

CHICAGO (STMW) — Four people were killed and at least 22 others were wounded in shootings across the city between Friday afternoon and early Monday.

The weekend’s latest fatal shooting happened Sunday morning in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.

Brandon Miles, 29, was in the driver’s seat of a car when someone opened fire from another dark-colored car about 6:15 a.m. in the 1000 block of West 50th Street, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Miles, who lived in the 7900 block of South Ingleside, was taken to Stroger Hospital with gunshot wounds to his back and neck, authorities said. He was pronounced dead at 7:11 a.m.

Another man was discovered shot to death Saturday morning in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side.

Officers found Frankie Gutierrez shortly after 7 a.m. unresponsive in the passenger seat of a vehicle in the 800 block of North Avers, authorities said. He was pronounced dead on the way to Mount Sinai Hospital, authorities said. He lived in the 6900 block of West Medill.

Friday evening, a 64-year-old man was gunned down in the Southwest Side Gage Park neighborhood.
Jose Arreola was found unresponsive on a sidewalk just after 7 p.m. in the 5100 block of South Troy with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and legs, according to police and the medical examiner’s office. Arreola, who lived in the 5100 block of South Albany, was taken to Mount Sinai, where he later died, authorities said.
The weekend’s first homicide happened late Friday afternoon, when a 23-year-old man was shot to death in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
The man was fighting with two people on a sidewalk just before 4 p.m. in the 4100 block of West 21st Street when one of the other two pulled out a gun and shot him in the head, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai, where he later died, according to police, who called the shooting domestic-related. His name was withheld Saturday.
The most recent nonfatal attack happened during a robbery Sunday night in Humboldt Park.
A 16-year-old boy was walking on the sidewalk in the 4100 block of West Crystal at 10:27 p.m. when an armed male got out of a black car nearby and announced a robbery, police said. The robber went through the teenager’s pockets and fired a shot, striking him in the right leg, police said. The robber then ran away with an undisclosed amount of cash. The teenager was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
Less than 30 minutes earlier, a security guard was attacked while trying to stop a domestic dispute on the Near West Side. About 10:05 p.m., a 30-year-old man was wielding a brick during a fight with a female in the 2300 block of West Jackson, police said. The security guard attempted to intervene, and the man then attempted to strike the guard with the brick. The guard opened fire and shot the man in the chest. Police said the man then ran away and later walked into Stroger Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.
About 8:15 p.m., an 18-year-old man was shot in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood on the Lower West Side. He was standing in the 2100 block of West 18th Street when someone approached him and shot him in the right leg, police said. The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.
