Anti-Gun Activist Shannon Watts Isn’t Who She Seems to Be

The Common Constitutionalist April 30, 2014

Last week I wrote an article entitled "Bloomberg Finances Another Anti-Gun Group." The article focused on a mom/activist named Shannon Watts, whose group "Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America," was being financed but none other than former Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

Lo and behold, a few days go by and we start hearing reports of Shannon Watts throwing verbal barbs at Dana Loesch of The Blaze. A video altercation of Loesch and Watts was posted on The Blaze and picked up by Doug Powers at Michelle Malkin's site.

In the video, mommy Shannon was seen walking in the park with some of her anti-gun mommy compatriots and a couple of beefy looking, suit and sunglasses wearing men. Who were the men? Turns out they were Ms. Watt's armed security. Armed with guns? Yep, armed with scary guns.
One's first thought might be – what a hypocrite. But then one must remember that there is no such thing as leftist hypocrisy. Whether it's taxes, the environment or guns, with the left, it will always be, do as I say, not as I do.

Now mommy Watts, mother of five, according to lefty press reports, is just a suburban mother who was apparently shaken to the core by the Sandy Hook shootings and felt she had to do something.

However, her organization and backing seem to be a little sophisticated for a "stay-at-home" suburban mother of five.
How sophisticated? Well, Ms. Watts must have been mighty motivated by the tragedy because her group was formed, up and running within 24 hours after the Sandy Hook shootings.

Could it be that Shannon isn't your average mommy? Could be. While maybe not a total fraud, she sure isn't Susie homemaker, as she has been portrayed.

She has actually been a public-relations/communications executive for a couple of decades. The Huffington post wrote that she has been Susie homemaker for the last five years, but her own LinkedIn account states that in December of 2008 Susie homemaker founded her own public relations agency.

Interestingly, devoted wife and mommy of five doesn't use the last name of Watts.

Unless one searches the name Shannon Troughton, one will not find out that mommy Watts started the agency.

Newswire reported in December 2008: "Shannon Troughton, most recently the Vice President of Corporate Communications for WellPoint, the country's largest health insurer, announced today the launch of a new public relations agency, VoxPop Public Relations, LLC. 'My goal has always been to start my own agency because I enjoy all aspects of helping companies increase their profile while protecting and enhancing their reputation,' said Troughton, president of VoxPop Public Relations. 'My experience in government affairs, agency and corporate public relations will be put to good use for my clients, which I hope will span a variety of industries.'"

Nowhere in the newswire report was the name Watts mentioned. Prior to founding her own agency, Ms. Troughton (mommy Watts) had been a heavy hitter at WellPoint health, GE healthcare, and even evil chemical giant Monsanto.

This is no average ordinary mother of five who just coincidentally freaked out over the Sandy Hook shootings.

In other words, a veteran lefty public-relations expert, who donated to the Obama campaign seven times, starting a well-organized, well-funded anti-gun group sounds a lot more likely than does a Susie homemaker nobody, who claims she started her anti-gun campaign with little more than a Facebook page.

Editor's Note: Dana Loesch contacted Erika Soto Lamb, who is identified as "Comms director for Everytown for Gun Safety (includes Mayors Against Illegal Guns and Moms Demand Action." Look at what she claimed was the reason for armed security.

While Ms. Lamb claimed, without evidence, that people on Loesch's side had threatened their lives, let me present Exhibit A with lots of actual, documented threats against millions of NRA members, including death threats aimed at the NRA president. Take a look for yourself here.

Holder’s Latest Scandal: DOJ Now Pressuring Banks to Refuse Service to Gun Stores

Posted by SHTF Plan on May 1, 2014

Comment from Alex Jones: This is a classic example of criminal racketeering. Holder is shutting down businesses just like the Nazis targeted the assets and later the companies of Jews in the 1930′s. The DoJ has been caught shipping guns to drug dealers, terrorists and gang members in Mexico under Fast and Furious, yet Holder is targeting legitimate, lawful gun shops. This is completely outside of the law and resembles the behavior of a dictatorship. Impeachment proceedings must begin immediately.

For the past several months, the U.S. Department of Justice has been pressuring banks to refuse service to businesses the DOJ is targeting politically, such as gun stores, in a program entitled Operation Choke Point.

Under the program, the DOJ, headed by Attorney General Eric Holder, is attempting to shut down various legal businesses, including firearm dealers, dating services, purveyors of drug paraphernalia and pornography distributors, by coercing financial institutions to close the bank and merchant accounts associated with these businesses.

The businesses targeted follow a 2011 Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation bulletin which lists all of the above legal activities and others as “merchant categories that have been associated with high-risk activity” involving “disreputable merchants.”

“Although many clients of payment processors are reputable merchants, an increasing number are not and should be considered ‘high risk,’” the bulletin reads. “These disreputable merchants use payment processors to charge consumers for questionable or fraudulent goods and services.”

In other words, the FDIC, and now the DOJ, are trying to demonize gun shops by causing banks to view legal firearm dealers as no different than pushers of “ponzi schemes” and “get rich products,” two “high-risk” activities that are also listed in the bulletin.

In 2012, Bank of America told a gun company, McMillan Group International, that because the company was expanding into firearms manufacturing, the bank no longer wanted McMillan’s business.

“We have to assess the risk of doing business with a firearms-related industry,” the bank’s representative told operations director Kelly McMillan.

Last month, BitPay, a U.S.-based bitcoin processor, likewise refused to do business with gun dealer Michael Cargill of Central Texas Gunworks due to a similar policy.

And also in March, a Florida couple who own a gun store received a letter from BankUnited informing them that the bank was closing their business account, which they opened seven years prior, and gave them three days to transfer their money elsewhere.

“I was very angry,” Elizabeth Liberti told the Miami New Times. “They were very inconsiderate. We had all our credit cards going through that bank.”

“All of a sudden, we had to run and find another bank to keep our business going. We shut down for two weeks, and they wouldn’t even tell us why.”

BankUnited finally gave them a reason some time later.

“This letter in no way reflects any derogatory reasons for such action on your behalf, but rather one of industry,” wrote branch manager Ricardo Garcia.

“Unfortunately your company’s line of business is not commensurate with the industries we work with.”

And it isn’t just gun stores that the Justice Dept. is targeting.

Last week, Xbiz, a news outlet pertaining to adult entertainment, reported that Chase Bank was sending out letters to hundreds of porn stars notifying them that their accounts would be terminated.

“I got a letter and it was like please cancel all transactions, please fix your automatic pay account and make sure everything’s taken care of by May 11,” actress Teagan Presley told Xbiz. “I called them and they told me that because I am, I guess, public and am recognizable in the adult business, they’re closing my account.”

“Even though I don’t use my account, it’s my personal account that I’ve had since I was 18, when it was Washington Mutual before Chase bought them out.”

And when Presley went to Bank of America to open a new account, the bank also turned her away.

An adult industry attorney, Michael Fattorosi, told Xbiz that banks in the past have “notoriously closed adult accounts or people in the industry’s accounts, but nothing like this.”

That’s because this discrimination is coming straight from the Justice Dept.

Jason Oxman, the CEO of the Electronic Transactions Association, recently revealed the massive scope of Operation Choke Point, which he indicated was also targeting ammunition sales.

The DOJ is ensuring the banks’ cooperation by threatening them “with subpoenas, civil investigative demands, and other burdensome and costly legal demands,” he wrote on The Hill. “And it’s working – payments companies across the country are cutting off service to categories of merchants that – although providing a legal service – are creating the potential for significant financial and reputational harm as law enforcement publicizes its activities.”

The Justice Dept.’s ultimate goal is to shut down these businesses completely.

Family of Slain Robber Calls For Stricter Gun Control (VIDEO)

Posted by Austin Petersen • 05 May 2014

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The family of an armed robber is calling for stricter gun control after the thief was shot and killed holding up a local Waffle House.

Dante Williams is seen on video pointing a gun at employees and customers, demanding they turn over their cash and valuables. A concealed carry holder, Justin Harrison, happened to be at the establishment and waited for an opportunity to shoot the suspect, killing him at the scene. A second robber fled the scene but was arrested later.

Now the family of Williams is speaking out and calling for more gun training to be required in order to get a CCW license.

Second Amendment Supporters Win in Oconomowoc

By Dean Weingarten on May 8, 2014

It started when a mother posted a simple picture on Facebook, and asked a simple question: Is openly carrying a gun legal in an Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, park? Milwaukee TV station WTMJ asked Oconomowoc officials who said that they had a local ordinance forbidding the practice, and that it was enforceable. In the process, they also smeared Second Amendment supporters . . .
Wisconsin Carry president Nik Clark and other Second Amendment supporters wrote and told WTMJ that they were wrong, citing the statutes in question. The TV station then went back to the city officials, who doubled down: both the city manager and the police chief restated that their ordinance was legal and enforceable.
Outraged Second Amendment supporters flooded the station and the city with emails and tweets, citing state law. Yesterday afternoon the police chief finally took the time to read the relevant statutes…and admitted that under Wisconsin’s preemption statute, the local law was unenforceable. Nik Clark of WisconsinCarry sent an email that the Chief had called him, and is in the process of correcting the error:
I’m pleased to relay that I received a call from the Oconomowoc Police Chief today who let me know that he has reviewed their local ordinance banning open carry in parks and realized it no longer fell within state law. He said he will be asking the city council to remove the ordinance at the next meeting. In the meantime, it will not be enforced.
I saw the video of the Chief Beguhn in the second broadcast and believe that he thought he was saying was the truth. What’s telling is that he apparently wasn’t concerned with actually checking it out until enough pressure was brought to bear.
Perhaps other police officials around the nation will learn from his example, and take the time to check the relevant statutes when asked a simple question about the laws they’re charged with enforcing.
TMJ4 ran this story as a semi-retraction; no mention of how they smeared Second Amendment supporters in the first broadcast. No mention that the clear facts are against them, no mention that Chief Beguhn has now actually read the law and is going to ask for its removal.
OCONOMOWOC — City leaders decided Wednesday to stop enforcement of a ban on open carrying of firearms in parks while lawyers determine if a local ordinance is compliant with state law, the city administrator said.
In short, they grudgingly admit that the City officials might not have been completely informed on the issue, and are checking on it.

HILLARY CLINTON: ‘FULLY LICENSED, FULLY VALIDATED’ GUN OWNERS CAN’T BE TRUSTED!

    Posted by Clark Kent

On May 6th, Hillary Clinton gave a speech at a National Council for Behavioral Health conference in which she suggested that “fully licensed” and “fully validated” gun owners cannot be trusted to make sound decisions regarding gun usage.

    According to Politico, Clinton’s said:

“At the rate we’re going, we’re going to have so many people with guns everywhere, fully licensed, fully validated, in settings where [one] could be in a movie theater, and they don’t like someone chewing gum loudly or talking on their cell phone and decide they have the perfect right to defend themselves against the gun chewer or cell phone user by shooting.”

As Breitbart News reported, Clinton also criticized lenient gun laws in her May 6th speech. Saying the idea “that almost anyone can have a gun anywhere at any time” has “become almost an article of faith.”

She suggested that this is not beneficial and that gun laws need to be “reined in.”
