6.9-magnitude quake hits off Taiwan coast

Taiwan -- The U.S. Geological Survey says a 6.9 magnitude earthquake has struck off the southeast coast of Taiwan.

The agency says the quake hit at 10:59 a.m. local time (7:59 p.m. PDT) Monday, 195 miles off the southern Taiwan city of Taitung.

Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau says no tsunami warning has been issued.

Buildings swayed in Taipei, the capital, when the quake hit, but there were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
