HIGH POINT, N.C. (WGHP) — Six people from the High Point and Thomasville areas were arrested on Thursday for an alleged baby formula conspiracy.

U.S. Attorney Ripley Rand said in a news release that the conspiracy involved stealing baby formula from retail stores in several southern states. The formula was collected in rented storage units in the High Point/Thomasville area and then transported in bulk to the Los Hermanos grocery store in Union City, NJ, according to the release.

Mario Miguel Torres-Guillan, aka Jorge Luis Robles-Rivera, 31, Denia Lizbeth Martinez, 27, Marco Antonio Ramirez-Iraheta, 27, and Marvin Lopez-Lopez, 32, were all arrested within the state, according to the release. Cris Alberto Paz, 24, and Douglas Ivan Martinez, 41, were also arrested in connection to the conspiracy in Pennsylvania.

Each person arrested was charged with conspiring to transport stolen baby formula in interstate commerce. Each person, aside from Mario Miguel Torres-Guillan, was also charged with the receipt and sale of stolen goods in interstate commerce.

Each person faces a fine of up to $250,000 and up to 10 years in prison.

Further court hearings are slated for January 21.
