CARLSBAD — The Carlsbad City Council unanimously approved plans Tuesday for the 672-home Robertson Ranch West Village subdivision, which will also include 12 acres of commercial projects.

The 200 acres where the subdivision will be constructed were recently purchased by developer Toll Brothers, Inc., which previously built Encinitas Ranch and part of The Crosby in Rancho Santa Fe.

Council members said the quality of those projects made them upbeat about the new development.

“This will be a very attractive addition to the city,” Councilman Mark Packard said.

Roberston Ranch, which is a 400-acre tract of former farmland in northeast Carlsbad, is bordered by El Camino Real, Tamarack Avenue and Cannon Road.

Construction recently began on another housing development, Robertson Ranch East Village, on the 178-acre eastern portion.

Carlsbad also plans to build a fire station and community park on 18 acres of Robertson Ranch.

The project approved Tuesday will include 308 single-family homes, 364 condominiums, 175,000 square feet of commercial development and 88 acres of open space including five neighborhood parks.
