71% Say Economy Getting Worse

The Rasmussen Investor Index, which measures investor confidence on a daily basis, gained another two points on Friday to 67.0. That's up a point from a week ago. However, it is down two points from a month ago and is just seven points above the all-time low established earlier this week.

The Rasmussen Consumer Index, which fell to a record low last Sunday, gained a point today. At 61.9, the Consumer Index is down two points from a week ago and two points from a month ago. Seventy-one percent (71%) of consumers say the economy is getting worse while just 11% say it is getting better. Most (52%) also say their own personal finances are getting worse.

A related survey, the Discover U.S. Spending Monitor, also fell to record lows in the most recent report.

Earlier this week, data showed that 33% of Americans had not yet started their holiday shopping while 22% had already finished.

Fifty-one percent (51%) say they would not buy a car from a company in bankruptcy. When it comes to automakers, just 14% federal involvement will help run the big three better and 53% oppose government loans to automakers. Even in Michigan, a plurality doubts the automakers would change their ways if they get the government money.

As for the housing market, 59% say their homes will be worth more in five years. However, they are not expecting a quick turnaround.

With the Treasury Department considering more direct involvement in the U.S. mortgage market, 42% of American adults say it is more important to make it easier for people to buy their first homes than to keep the value of existing homes as high as possible. The Rasmussen Consumer Index and Investor Index are derived from nightly telephone surveys of 500 adults and reported on a three-day rolling average basis. The baseline for the Index was established at 100.0 in October 2001. Readings above 100.0 indicate that confidence is higher than in the baseline month. The Rasmussen Consumer Index reached its highest level ever at 127.0 on January 6, 2004. The all-time low was reached on December 7, 2008 at 58.4.

The Rasmussen Investor Index reached its highest level ever at 150.9 on January 7, 2004. The lowest level ever measured was 60.1 on December 8, 2008.

The baseline for the Rasmussen Consumer Index was established at 100.0 in October 2001. The current reading of 61.9 that overall levels of economic confidence are significantly lower today than they were in the aftermath of the 9-11 terrorist attacks.

Only 71%?

The 30% not unhappy are: 15% are undocumented immigrants, 15% still have jobs and don't want to get involved, yet.

And Jorge Felipe Boooosh Calderon Jr at his daddy's insistence just opened the border to the rest of the world who can claim they are H2A holders.......he has basically eliminated our borders and rendered the border patrol......I called several dozen senatorial and congressional offices and they didn't seem too worried...I bet Al Qaeda, Hezbollah, Hamas, The Taliban, Jihad, and now Lashkar Al Taiba and other groups are dancing in the streets as all they have to do is claim they are H2A applicants without any formal process to ascertain who they really are and what are their intentions. That idiot Bush has made their strategy to bring weapons and bombs into the country to murder more Americans infinitely easier. Meanwhile we sacrifice more lives and billions of dollars to perpetuate what now is proof that this war on terror truly is a farce.

I have a neighbor who told me in the last few months that she did not know that immigrations was a problem at all. Yeah! Are Americans this stupid?
