8 more Somalis charged in Minnesota terror probe

    03:47 PMYahoo! BuzzShare

Eight additional suspects have been charged in the terrorism investigation of Somali men in Minnesota who were recruited to fight with Islamist extremists in their East African homeland.

Federal prosecutors just announced the charges at a Minneapolis news conference.

Seven young men already have been indicted. One man was arrested on terrorism-related charges late last week, accused of helping some of the 20 men travel to Somalia during the past two years. At least three have been killed.

The FBI has been investigating the recruiting and financing of al-Shabab, which appears to have set up cells in Minnesota, California, Ohio and Massachusetts.

I would like to know how the Somalis got in here and why are there so many now. I know Maine was made to take in some as refugees, but how did all the other ones get in? Why is it so impossible for ICE, Homeland Security, the State Department, and other agencies dealing with visas, immigration, etc to keep track of these people? IMO these are dangerous people that will never fit into our society at all.

Earlier this month, charges were filed against 24-year-old Omer Abdi Mohamed accusing him of providing material support to terrorists.

The indictment says that as part of the conspiracy, Mohamed _ also known as Brother Omer or Galeyr _ helped some of the men travel to Somalia.

Another Minneapolis man, Mohamud Said Omar, was arrested this month in the Netherlands, accused of financing the purchase of weapons for Islamic militants and helping others travel to Somalia in 2007 and 2008.

Somalia has not had a functioning government since 1991, when warlords overthrew a socialist dictator and then turned on each other, causing chaos in the African nation of 7 million.
