9 Republicans Break Ranks, Impeachment Hearings Fri. July 25

Country-Western Impeach song, by Tom Chelston

9 Republicans Break Ranks, Impeachment Hearings Fri. July 25

Nine Republicans have broken ranks to vote to send Rep. Dennis Kucinich's article of impeachment HR 1345 to the House Judiciary Committee, where Chairman John Conyers will hold hearings.

The Republicans are (Yea 238 - Nay 180):

    Congressman Kevin Brady (TX)
    Congressman Wayne Gilchrest (MD)
    Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC)
    Representative Don Manzullo (IL)
    U.S. Congressman Tim Murphy(PA)
    Congressman Ron Paul (TX)
    Congressman Dave Reichert (WA)
    Congressman Christopher Shays (CT)
    Representative Mike Turner (OH)

One of the Republicans, Walter Jones, represents Camp LeJeune in North Carolina, one of the largest Marine bases in the country, and one which has borne heavily the sacrifice of the Iraq War.

The impeachment article focuses narrowly on administration claims that Saddam possessed WMD in the run-up to the Iraq war, and that there was a connection between Hussein and 9/11. Kucinich's article relies partly on the famous Downing Street Memo, the transcript of a gathering of the British Prime Minister's senior ministers on July 23, 2002. The DSM includes such passages as:

"C reported on his recent talks in Washington. There was a perceptible shift in attitude. Military action was now seen as inevitable. Bush wanted to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy." - Downing Street Memo.
The facts were being fixed around the policy. Facts. Fixed. In other words, they lied.

Now over 4,100 fine young men and women are dead. The Judiciary Committee will have the opportunity to adopt the article of impeachment to send back to the House for a full House vote. Let the congressmen take a stand, and put themselves on the record for history, the cabal which buried its constitutional duty for party or politics or out of sheer weak-kneed cowardice, which is a stench next to the fiber of the Americans we lost, and those who still dart across alleys laced with machine gun fire somewhere in Iraq, in answer to the call of their country. How wrong that these courageous are not the ones making the decisions for our country.

People from around the country, of all parties, will be working all week to make this happen. If you would like to join them, please to go to the National Impeachment Network http://nationalimpeachment.org/

    More action items:

This is a small opening, no more. Whether it leads to impeachment depends purely on what people do. That's how it got even this far.

-call your own congressman, tell them you want them to do their job. Any congressman can introduce an article of impeachment.

    - call all the Republicans on the Judiciary (the Democrats on that committee are spineless cowards who won't care), ask them to adopt the article of impeachment on Friday to be sent to the full House for a vote.

    - Email these media executives, ask them to cover the hearings: President NBC News Steve Capus - steve.capus@nbcuni.com, Senior Vice President NBC News Mark Whitaker - mark.whitaker@nbcuni.com, Executive Producer MSNBC COUNTDOWN Izzy Povich - izzy.povich@nbcuni.com and call C-SPAN, ask them to broadcast live Viewer Services: (765) 464-3080 viewer@c-span.org, also CNN Phone: 404-827-1500

The republican party must already be smelling the blood in the water before the elections. The real question is - is this for self preservation or a true revolt ?

Considering their current nominee - McSame - I would have to sadly conclude it is self preservation only.

Check out Republican Congressman Ron Pauls Revolution movement.I am reading his book "The Revolution - A Manifesto" and he says Bush is destroying our country, our constitution, our liberties and working on destroying our sovereignty.

I would recommend this book to everyone. It has helped me understand all that has and is happening in our government. It is shocking.....

So 9 brave Repubs voted for the hearings and 10 Repubs abstained from voting. They did the right thing imo.

Maybe. But, sometimes we have to settle for people doing the right thing even if we think it is for the wrong reasons.

And, let's face it......we may not like McCain, but we need to keep Obama out of the presidency, more democrats from making it into Congress, and see the ones who are there removed, at least to the point where they are no longer the majority.

The dissatisfaction with the Bush administration and Congress is a bi-partisan disgust among Americans. A move like this on the part of the Republicans could really go a long way in achieving what we need to see happen.

I wish they would get on with it, get rid of Cheney too, then go after Pelosi and Harry Reid. They're ALL crooked!

While we would prefer to see Bush impeached for failing to defend our borders and failing to enforce our existing immigration laws, congratulations to these brave Republicans for finally asserting their Congressional powers.

Yes, W is right. We need more Congress people to stand up for what is right. It doesn't matter why Bush is impeached, just so he's impeached.
